Makers' labs are unique prototyping laboratories inside emlyon French business school. Dedicated to creativity and learning by doing, they are accessible to the whole emlyon community: graduates, students, staff, professors, researchers, incubates and corporate partners. In that context, they offer a 5 ECTS course to its BBA & Master students, to help them discover digital manufacturing and give them the opportunity to discover how to prototype, test, design, and share a product quickly. The course offers 136 learning hours (36h online - 36h individual - 50h collective - 12h collective with mentoring - 2h evaluation)
During this first part, students discover through their Learning Management System (LMS) the basics of digital fabrication: 3d modeling & printing, laser cutting, electronics.
Once the theoretical foundations are built, each student make its first opensource project using digital fabrication tools. This first "learning by doing" layer help them dive into digital fabrication perspectives and shape a personal understanding.
For the third and last part, students work in small groups tutored by a professional. The objective is to solve a specific problem given by their mentor by making a physical object including a bit of electronics and/or a mobile app. Students follow a 4 weeks "Design Thinking" journey where they learn how to frame a problem, prototype a first solution with cardboard, test the prototype with potential users, improve the original prototype design with users feedbacks and digital fabrication, and share their journey as a public tutorial at the end.

Since 2019, twice per year, I'm mentoring 3-6 teams during the project part following the weekly process described below:
